Big Garden Goals

Welcome, Fellow Garden Enthusiasts!

What a thrilling moment it is to turn the calendar page and unveil the upcoming plans and ventures for Off-Grid Garden this year! We're gearing up to explore some wonderful strategies to enhance our land and elevate our love for gardening. This year is all about boosting our commitment to sustainable practices and nurturing an even stronger bond with the great outdoors. Let's dive in and make this year one to remember!

August 2023 piglets

During our fall cleanup, we let our pigs and cows loose in the garden. They chowed down on the greens, rooted up whatever we missed, and, oh boy, did their manure do wonders as a natural fertilizer. No need for us to break a sweat—these guys turned into our garden helpers, tilling the soil without us lifting a finger!

Last year we also collected rainwater in totes to keep our garden hydrated. It's a simple and effective method that ensures our plants get the water they need!

Let's peek into the exciting goals we're planting in the garden of 2024

  • 100% Self-Sufficiency: Hold onto your gardening hats! This year, our big dream is to raise 100% of our meat and veggies right here on our homestead. I think it’s safe to say that we harvest around 80% in the past so it won’t be too far fetched to achieve.

  • Seed Starts Extravaganza: Last year we just threw some seeds in the ground and hoped for the best. Worked out pretty darn well for us but we can do soo much better! This year, we are going to start seeds indoors (BIG announcement to come!) because of Wisconsin's short growing seasons, we're seizing the opportunity to get a head start and make the most out of our summer growing time.

  • Canning Galore: Imagine shelves lined with jars of preserved goodness—so pretty and so delicious! Canning isn't just a skill; it's a celebration of the abundance that our garden generously offers. Plus, I get to spend more precious moments with my family while still serving up delightful, home-canned treats. It's a win-win in the kitchen!

Off-Grid Garden is buzzing with anticipation, and we're inviting you to be a part of it. Let's grow dreams, sow seeds, and cultivate a year that's as vibrant as the blossoms in our garden. What are your goals for this upcoming year?
